Integers Sprint: Multiplication and Division -10 to 10
Description: This packet helps students practice multiplying and dividing with positive and negative numbers (a skill that is essential for algebra and is very often challenging for students). This worksheet focuses just on numbers between -10 and 10 so students do not have to do long or complicated multiplication and division problems; they just need to accurately multiply and divide integers. Each page also has a race formula to easily calculate scores. The student has a set time limit to finish all of the problems. Whatever problems are incorrect or blank after the time period are added together. That sum is subtracted from 100 to get a final score. Students can then compare their scores to see who did the best. We push students to finish them quickly, and make them repeat worksheets until they can do them with 100% accuracy. We find that the vast majority of mistakes that even high school students make in algebra stem from problems multiplying and dividing with integers. These sprints are a fun way to tell whether students have mastered multiplying and dividing with integers.
Find the product or quotient.
Simple: 8 x 4 = (+ times +) OR -6 x -8 = (- times -) OR 10 / 2 = (+ divided by +) OR -12 - 4 = (- divided by -)
Advanced: 6 x -3= (+ times -) OR -5 x 3 = (- times +) OR 54 / -9 = (+ divided by -) OR -42 / 7 = (- divided by +)
We encourage all students to have a full understanding of how negative numbers work before attempting these drills. We also encourage all students entering algebra to be able to complete these drills with 100% accuracy, in less than 5 minutes per page.
