Adding Integers -10 to 10

Common Core Grade Level:
Packet includes:
300 practice problems and an answer key.

This packet helps students practice adding positive and negative numbers (a skill that is essential for algebra and is very often challenging for students!).

This worksheet focuses just on numbers between -10 and 10, so students do not have to do long or complicated addition problems; they just need to accurately add integers. We consider these pages to be drills. We push students to finish them quickly, and make them repeat worksheets until they can do them with 100% accuracy. We find that the vast majority of mistakes that even high school students make in algebra stem from problems adding (and subtracting) with integers. There are also worksheets that combine both addition and subtraction with integers for greater challenge.

Sample Problem(s)

Find the sum.
Simple: 3 + 4 = (positive plus positive)
Advanced: 5 + -9 = (positive plus negative) OR -8 + -7 = (negative plus negative)

Notes

We encourage all students to have a full understanding of how negative numbers work before attempting these drills. We also encourage all students entering algebra to be able to complete these drills with 100% accuracy, in less than 5 minutes per page.
