EdBoost’s
mission is to reduce educational inequality by making high-quality,
individualized academic help accessible to all children. EdBoost is a nonprofit that specializes in providing one-on-one educational services and creating one-on-one tutoring, test prep, and college advising curricula. In Los Angeles, we provide one-on-one academic tutoring, test preparation (ISEE, HSPT, SAT, ACT, and others), and college advising. At our Learning Center, in the Palms neighborhood of Los Angeles, we also provide an afterschool homework program with a low (5:1) student-to-tutor ratio Youth service organizations, schools, and universities can purchase our SOURCE College Advising Program, which helps organizations train and supervise college and graduate students as they provide one-on-one college counseling to low-income high school students. | Now enrolling for the 2008-2009 school year: Summer Enrichment News: Post-test results from EdBoost's WritingBoost! summer camps are in! Over the course of a week, students produced four complete pieces (desciptive writing, expository writing, persuasive essays, and personal essays) and workshopped and revised one piece to present to parents at a public reading. Post-tests show that students increased their writing skills by 27%. Vocabulary skills, in particular, increased an average of 56%. And, in the end, everyone had fun writing and sharing their work with their peers! In ComputerBoost, Students increased their computer literacy by an average of 42% and all students left EdBoost with a completed website, a blog, a Second Life avatar and a wide range of computer programming skills (from if-then commands to loops!). Special thanks to volunteer Ed Stabler who taught the programming portion of ComputerBoost. Check out the students' blog to see more about what they learned.
