Is your child just starting to read?  Looking for a summer program to help your child build reading skills and have a lot of fun with reading, talking about books, and doing book-related projects? Check out our two summer camps for early readers:

ReadingBoost! For Pre-Readers

Want to help your child build reading skills over the summer?  ReadingBoost! will bring together pre-readers, who know sounds and some sight words, and are starting to put words together, and help them to build those basics into stronger reading skills.  In the process, ReadingBoost! will expose students to a variety of types of books, teach them that reading is exciting, and that it’s fun to talk about the books you read with other children.  The camp will be part reading circle (students practicing reading aloud – after practicing sounds and sight words from the book together), part book club (students discussing the book with each other), part word-game-show (students competing to show off their acquisition of sounds, blends, and sight words), part writing class (students practicing their phonics and writing skills to write short book reviews), and part book-report-craft-time (students applying what they liked about each day’s book to make a craft or activity to share with the class – while learning the basics of writing a book report).  ReadingBoost! will increase your child’s fluency, sight word knowledge, confidence with reading, and love of reading.

Time: 9:00 am–3:00 pm, M-F, August 9-August 13
Grades: K-2nd (students who have pre-reading skills but aren’t reading beyond very simple books)
Class size
: 6-10
Fee: $350 (scholarships available)

ReadingBoost!  For Early Readers

Are you looking forward to summers when your children curl up with a good book at the beach, but find that their reading skills aren’t quite good enough yet?  ReadingBoost! for Early Readers is designed to help students who are reading – but struggling to read smoothly, efficiently, and with good comprehension – improve their reading skills and increase their interest in reading.    This camp is specifically designed for students who can read and sound out words but who are reading slowly and haltingly and who may struggle with comprehension. The camp will involve a lot of reading out loud (to give students practice and confidence) as well as some speed games (to use silly, low-pressure ways to help students practice reading quickly), a lot of discussion (to help children understand and love what they read), and a wide range of projects (including both writing and crafting, so that students can apply what they learn from books to other applications).  Summer is a great time to build reading skills.  And, book clubs and camps help kids to see that reading can be fun, social, and interesting.  ReadingBoost! will help your children increase word knowledge, reading speed, reading comprehension, and interest in reading.

Time: 9:00 am–3:00 pm, M-F, July 12-July 16
Grades: 1st-3rd (students who are reading, but need practice and help to read more fluently and comprehend better)
Class size
: 6-10
Fee: $350 (scholarships available)

Summer Tutoring, Too! Enrollment Information
For many students, summer is a great time to brush up on skills or get ahead for the next school year.

If your students are  struggling, summer is the perfect time to get extra help.  When students are free from school homework, they can spend more time and energy filling academic gaps and getting prepared for the new school year.

Whether you're looking for help with academic subjects or prep for tests (including ISEE, HSPT, and SAT), summer is great time to to get a head start!

EdBoost Summer tutoring hours are:
Monday-Thursday
10am-5pm

Current students: If you're interested in tutoring, contact us
with your preferred times, days, subjects, and tutors.  Please note: all appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis.

New students: EdBoost offers both One-on-One Academic Tutoring and Test Preparation Tutoring during the summer.

Before they start tutoring at EdBoost, we'll ask students to come in and take a diagnostic exam. With that exam, we can  determine the student's tutoring needs.  Schedule assessments now so that we're ready to start tutoring as soon as summer begins!

Note: EdBoost will be closed June 26 - July 4, 2010.  Summer tutoring begins July 5, 2010.
We are now enrolling students for 2010 Summer Day Camps and for summer tutoring sessions.
