We are offering two writing camps this summer:

WritingBoost!

Broaden your writing repertoire with this week-long essay writing camp. Days will be divided into three portions: lesson time, writing time, and workshop time. Each day, the instructor, will present a new form of essay writing (show-not-tell essays, expositional essays, how-to essays, and personal essays). Students will learn about various writing forms and read a wide-variety of example essays. Students will then have the opportunity to try their hands at each technique. After lunch, students will workshop their work (current pieces and favorite pieces from earlier in the week). Students will learn writing workshop etiquette, how to critique others’ work, and how to receive constructive criticism. Students will then have time to revise favorite pieces and meet one-on-one with the instructor to talk about style, tone, and grammar.  The workshop will cover grammar, usage, spelling, and vocabulary based on issues that appear in students' writing.  The camp will focus not only on writing correctly, but on writing freely -- practicing techniques to help children put their thoughts to paper.

Time: 9:00 am–3:00 pm, M-F, July 19-July 23
Grades: 4th-8th
Class size: 6-10 students
Fee: $350 (scholarships available)

StoryBoost!

Learn to express your creativity with our week-long creative writing day-camp! Days will be divided into three portions: lesson time, writing time, and workshop time. Each day, the instructor, will present a new part of story writing (point of view, character development, dialog, plot development). Students will read exemplar stories (and parts of stories) and students will then have the opportunity to try their hands at each aspect of story writing. After lunch, students will workshop the day’s writing.  Students will learn writing workshop etiquette, how to critique others’ work, and how to receive constructive criticism. After the workshop, students will have time to improve their work and one-on-one with the instructor to talk about style, tone, and grammar.   Each student will be compiling components to put together one complete story by the end of the camp.  The workshop will cover grammar, usage, spelling, and vocabulary based on issues that appear in students' writing.  The camp will focus not only on writing correctly, but on writing with creativity and inspiration.  Workshops should help students find and develop their writing strengths.

Time: 9:00 am–3:00 pm, M-F, August 2 - August 6
Grades: 4th-8th
Class size: 6-10 students
Fee: $350 (scholarships available)

Summer Tutoring, Too! Enrollment Information
For many students, summer is a great time to brush up on skills or get ahead for the next school year.

If your students are  struggling, summer is the perfect time to get extra help.  When students are free from school homework, they can spend more time and energy filling academic gaps and getting prepared for the new school year.

Whether you're looking for help with academic subjects or prep for tests (including ISEE, HSPT, and SAT), summer is great time to to get a head start!

EdBoost Summer tutoring hours are:
Monday-Thursday
10am-5pm

Current students: If you're interested in tutoring, contact us
with your preferred times, days, subjects, and tutors. Please note: all appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis.

New students: EdBoost offers both One-on-One Academic Tutoring and Test Preparation Tutoring during the summer.

Before they start tutoring at EdBoost, we'll ask students to come in and take a diagnostic exam. With that exam, we can  determine the student's tutoring needs.  Schedule assessments now so that we're ready to start tutoring as soon as summer begins!

Note: EdBoost will be closed June 26 - July 4, 2010.  Summer tutoring begins July 5, 2010.
We are now enrolling students for 2010 Summer Day Camps and for summer tutoring sessions.

Space in the day camps is limited.  To reserve a spot, please submit the following materials ASAP (all forms can be downloaded below):
