EdBoost offers test prep for all major standardized admissions exams (ISEE, HSPT, SAT, ACT) as well as the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).  All test prep tutoring is administered individually and preceded by a free diagnostic that we use to pinpoint students' strengths and weaknesses, choose an appropriate tutor, and develop a student-specific tutoring plan.

Tutoring plans are designed to cover basic test taking strategies. The number of sessions recommended increases when students need to work on academic skills (e.g., improve math skills) or when students find some aspect of the test especially challenging.

EdBoost tutors approach test preparation in two ways.  First, all tutors teach students how to "think like a test-writer," helping students to choose the answers that the test is looking for.  Tutors also teach shortcuts (e.g., when to use answer choices to solve a problem), which problems to skip, and how to avoid typical test tricks.  Second, tutors take a strong "skills" approach to test prep.  At EdBoost, we believe that many of the skills required on tests are the same skills required to succeed in high school and college, so we are committed to helping students master the academic skills assessed by the standardized tests.
Tutor Qualifications Enrollment Information
Because EdBoost is committed to providing high quality educational services, we maintain higher standards for our test prep tutors  than do most local for-profit test prep tutoring agencies.

All EdBoost test prep tutors must:
  • Score above the 97th percentile on the SAT or GRE (for ISEE, HSPT, CAHSEE, SAT, and ACT test prep) or a 5 on the relevant subject test (for AP test prep).
  • Have a B.A. or be enrolled in a 4-year college.
  • Be smart, personable, and enthusiastic about learning.
  • Enjoy working with children and youth and sharing their love of learning.
  • Be fingerprinted and background checked.
We are now enrolling test prep students for ISEE (lower, middle, and upper), HSPT, CASHEE, SAT Reasoning, SAT Subject Tests (most subjects), ACT, and other exams.  Sign up early to reserve your first-choice timeslots.

We administer diagnostic exams for all test prep students before they begin tutoring. Take a diagnostic as soon as possible so we have plenty of time before fall test administrations! Diagnostic tests and assessments are free.

Most tutoring is administered at our learning center but we do offer at-home tutoring when available.
