| Check out WritingBoost! & Computer Boost! WritingBoost! Broaden your writing repertoire
with this week-long writing camp. Days will be divided into three portions:
lesson time, writing time, and workshop time. Each day, Tiffani Chin, the
instructor, will present a new form of writing (expository writing, short
stories, essays, dialogue, verse). Students will learn about
various writing forms and read examples from well-known and
well-regarded authors. Students will then have the opportunity to try their
hands at each technique. After lunch, students will workshop their work
(current pieces and favorite pieces from earlier in the week). Students will
learn writing workshop etiquette, how to critique others’ work, and how to
receive constructive criticism. Students will then have time to revise favorite
pieces and meet one-on-one with the instructor to talk about style, tone, and grammar.
The workshop will cover grammar, usage, spelling, and vocabulary based on
issues that appear in students' writing. The camp will focus not only on
writing correctly, but on writing freely -- practicing techniques to help
children put their thoughts to paper. The week will culminate with a
reading and reception on Friday evening which parents and friends are welcome
to attend. Time: 9:00 am–3:00 pm, M-F, July 21-July 25 Even children and teenagers can
create cutting edge websites and write their own computer programs. Join us for
ComputerBoost to learn a range of computer skills that students will use in
classes and in jobs in the future. ComputerBoost students will learn to
build webpages (on Dreamweaver MX or NVU) and make a wide range of
graphics (on Fireworks MX and Gimp). Students will create their own blogs,
learn to customize their blogs, and learn to take and format pictures for
blogs. Students will also learn computer programming through the increasingly
popular “alternative reality” site, Second Life. Computer science and
programming will be taught by UCLA professor, Ed Stabler, and students will be
divided into beginning and intermediate programming groups. Students will learn
the essentials of programming (including if-then statements and loops)
as well as enough LSLWiki language to continue to build their own programs.
Students will take daily lessons and then have time to work on their webpages
and programs with supervision and one-on-one consultation with instructors. If
needed, students will also learn computer literacy basics such as how to sign
up for an email account, how to get free webspace space, and how to post
comments on other people’s blogs. Students will be able to continue websites,
blogs, and Second Life accounts once they finish the class. Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday, August 18-22 |
Summer Tutoring, Too! | Enrollment Information | ||||||||||||||||
| For
many students, summer is a time to brush up on skills or get ahead for
the next school year. For students who are struggling, summer is
the perfect time to get extra help, because they're free from the
burden of regular school homework. Whether you're looking for help with academic subjects or prep for tests (including ISEE, HSPT, and SAT), summer is great time to start! Current students: If you're interested in tutoring, contact Tiffani with your preferred times, days, subjects, and tutors. We have not yet put together a summer schedule, but like to make it with students' and parents' preferences in mind. New students: EdBoost offers both One-on-One Academic Tutoring and Test Preparation Tutoring during the summer. Before you start tutoring at EdBoost, we'll ask you to come in and take a diagnostic exam. From that exam, we can best determine your tutoring needs. Schedule assessments now so that we're ready to start tutoring as soon as summer begins! Note: EdBoost will be closed June 20 - June 29, 2008. Summer tutoring begins June 30, 2008 |
We are now enrolling students for 2008 Summer Day Camps and for summer tutoring sessions. Space in the day camps is limited. To reserve a spot, please submit the following materials ASAP (all forms can be downloaded below). Please submit payment by May 31st, 2008:
